Bats, Cats, and Rats is part of a series of learn-to-read books from Apologia Press. There are 7 books currently in the series although we only have the first 6. The books are fun in that they tell about the animals God made. They talk about the day or days of creation that their creatures were made. So, the books are definitely from a young earth perspective. All of my readers have gotten very excited when they get to the first books they can read on their own that talk about God. Since my current learning-to-read boy also loves animals, these books are a doubly great find.
You can check out the whole series here.
We haven’t gotten to read the one about deer yet with my latest reader, but I do remember not loving that the antlers were called horns. My kids know the difference between the two. I totally understand the authors trying to make the books easy to read, but maybe they could have referenced a different body part. It was a great little teaching moment for my kids and not enough of a deterrent to stop us from loving these books.
