Gideon drew me a picture today.
He came and told me, “This is a rocket ship. Where it is pink, it is the driver’s seat and the passenger seat. There is an elevator that can take them up, up, up to where the landing gear is. Then they can land on a planet. They land on Jupiter – the big gas giant, near the red spot. They got some of the red spots in an empty milk jug and put a cap on it. They dug down for a treasure chest. The treasure chest was a lot of games.”
As my little boy shared with me, I was so thankful that I took the time to stop and listen to him.
All I was expecting was maybe a title to the drawing. Instead, I got a sweet little story, a boy so proud to tell me, and a special memory.
So, the messy shelves behind my boy can wait. I’m going to stop and listen.
