I just love when we go to the library and find a book that surprises us with how good it is.
How to Clean a Hippopotamus: A Look at Unusual Animal Partnerships was one of these books. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures, reading the interesting facts, and having conversations with the kids about this book.
Seriously. When is there an animal picture book that the adult reading really learns new (and pretty amazing) facts? Each page in the book talks about a different symbiotic relationship – many we hadn’t read about before. I don’t want to give away all the cool facts about boxer crabs, clown fish, sunfish, badgers, or any other animals in the book; I just think you might enjoy checking it out yourself. We read this book over the course of a few days one or two symbiotic relationships at a time.
NOTE: We absolutely loved every symbiotic relationship, but the last one. . . not really sure that humans and dogs have as cool of a relationship as some of the amazing and unusual creatures mentioned on the pages before it.
